High End Music Venue
An enquiry was made from a music venue in the north of the country.
The problem was they had been served with a noise abatement order and would not be allowed to operate. They had 2 large events booked in 6 weeks time. These events were profitable and they could not afford to loose the business.
Our surveyor was sent there as a matter of urgency.
The surveyor found the following problems
- The noise generated at the speakers was 128db.
-
The existing structure, particularly the roof was weak in terms of noise suppression. It was,
- Glass panels in roof.
- Very thin roof with 100mm void between internal covering and external skin.
- The doors were single and directly to the outside
- Adjacent rooms had windows and other weaknesses.
Design limitations
- The roof angle iron trusses could not be loaded with any more weight.
- The width and length of the room meant that new structural beams would be required.
Design
An initial design was made and priced within 3 days. Including structural engineer calculations.
This was outside the affordable budget of the customer, so the design was altered and re-priced. This was agreed and a confirmatory site meeting took place 7 days later.
Project liaison
We made contact with the local environmental health enforcement officers and explained what was going to be done.
They were invited to the venue both before and during the construction to see what it involved.
Time
From the time we were able to start on site we had 3½ weeks to get ready for the 2 major events. The timings were very tight, some smaller details were not complete, but the major structure was in place and working.
Developers
In addition to the text some pictures are needed!
